Hello Again! This is
Darrin Eaddy, “Your Starting Over Coach,” here with a question for you!
The reason I pose this question is simple. Our society as a
whole has taken our good health for granted so much so that the government has had
to force us to obtain and maintain health insurance. Now is that the full story? No it isn’t but
it does paint a more appropriate picture of the state of affairs of our country
when it comes to society’s view of a healthy life style. The answer is clear. We
just don’t see our health as important. I am not talking about everyone but I
am referring to the 80% of the population who doesn’t engage in exercise or healthy
life style habits. So let me ask you that critical question again. What would the
quality of your life be like without health?
First of all, without good health our ability to lead an
active lifestyle would dwindle to nearly nothing. I’m not saying that you
couldn’t go out with your spouse or friends for a night out on the town dancing
or go to an amusement park with your children and family. What I am saying is
that you just wouldn’t be motivated to do so because poor health leads to low
energy levels, lethargic behavior and low self-esteem. It could even impact how
your family and friends feel about you as you struggle to keep up with the fun
of family sports and entertainment activities. You may even find that you are
no longer the life of the party as you become self conscious about what you’re
wearing because you can’t fit into that dress you once wore when you painted
the town red years ago.
How about this one? How could our choices to live without
good health impact our economy? How about low productivity in the work
environment or the poor national image that our country now has when compared
to other countries? How many jokes have been made about Westerners becoming fat
off of the poor daily habits of consuming fast food meals such as hamburgers
and French fries? Now you may be thinking that Darrin, you are making too much
of this but I want to leave you with something to think about. Most of society
just doesn’t consider the individual or collective impact of our decisions or
lack of decision to live a healthy lifestyle. The next time you make your food
choices or give an excuse for not exercising, think about the questions that I
have asked. I want you to take a serious look at the lifestyle of yourself,
family, friends, co workers, etc and determine how the personal habits and
choices of each of these have impacted their current health status. Once again,
this is Darrin Eaddy, “Your Starting Over Coach” with food for thought and some
“Real Talk.”
