Can Health Be the New Lifestyle?

This is Darrin Eaddy “Your Starting Over Coach” with a what if question.”If you were to talk to a number of people and ask them if they had a choice to change something about our world, what would it be? You would probably get answers like, no more crime, or a cure for cancer, or world peace and a cure to world hunger.  If you were to ask me what I would change, I would tell you that a world where health was a lifestyle and being healthy was at the top of the list in my priorities and most of the supply and demand would be focused on being healthy. So let’s talk about how society would change if “Health Consciousness” was the new lifestyle.
The first course of action would be to adopt better policies and regulations that control the pollution of our water and world as a whole because agriculture would be our main import. Our personal demand would create a need for more fruit, vegetables and healthy meats with fewer toxins. Furthermore, we would think differently about what type of restaurants we would frequent and the foods we would feed our children. Inevitably there would be a lesser demand for cigarettes, illegal drugs and other social habits that lead to poor health. Exercise would be part of a normal lifestyle and productivity in the work place would be at an all-time high because employees would be overall healthier, perform more efficiently and require less time off for sick days.
The truth is that this proposed view of the world is the complete opposite of today’s state of affairs.  I’m proposing a change that would see a world where 80% of the population desires to be healthy and participates in physical activity while the other 20% leads an inactive lifestyle and remains in poor health. The benefits to living in a healthy world are clear and immeasurable, so come dream with me of a new world that could be made possible if we just make the decision to become more health conscious and take the steps that would impact our society and its priorities in making health the “New Lifestyle.”
